FRT Reclaimed Wood Earrings
This Front Range Timber reclaimed old-growth wood earring is the result of the collaboration between Modern Ancient Design and FRT. These earrings serve as the third life-cycle for this USA reclaimed barn wood that began as a barn, became a scrap from FRT and eventually earrings for M.A.D. So what is old-growth wood? Old-growth wood is from trees that belonged to forests that grew up over hundreds of years (in this case within the United States). A majority of today’s lumber is harvested from trees that have been cultivated to grow rapidly, so the wood is not as dense. and contains fewer rings.
The collaboration with Front Range Timber began by accident as I was looking for wood scraps to recreate earrings my sister-in-law had prototyped for me a few years earlier. As my blog discusses I came to realize the “wood” most frequently used in jewelry is not the pure natural resource we believe we are purchasing. FRT showed me a kindness and generosity I’ve rarely seen from strangers. When thinking of the ideal local business to support, they are at the top of the list.
