Reclaimed Koa for Maui - Earrings
Reclaimed Koa for Maui - Earrings
These reclaimed Koa for Maui earrings are named “Melia and Wei” in honor of the plant medicine and water of Hawaii. To call them “Reclaimed Koa for Maui” serves a double meaning. The Koa used to create these earrings was taken to Front Range Timber in Broomfield, CO in hopes they could repurpose the beautiful scraps. The owner knew the wood was precious. F.R.T. thought to give the wood to me knowing I would also understand its preciousness. It sat for months as I did not know how best to honor it.
With the recent devastation to Maui, the path became clear for the Koa. 100% of profits will be donated to Maui Mutual Aid Fund.
“Maui Aloha: The Peopleʻs Response is dedicated to providing a safe and trusted conduit to move kōkua quickly in support of community organizers and organizations already engaged in this work, on the ground. Funds raised through this effort will move critical resources to past, present, and future community partners committed to nurturing our beloved community through this storm.”
High quality hand-formed sterling silver ear wires are attached to these hand-painted and highly inspired earrings.
**A custom color option is available. If selected I will reach out via email to work with you on colors you love!
Acacia koa commonly known as Koa is native to Hawaii. It has served as the go to for tools, weapons and canoes. The wood is durable and represents strength and courage. Sadly most old-growth Koa has been largely milled and converted to lumber in an effort to create pastures. Koa harvesting is now illegal on public land while few old-growth trees remain on private land.
Though these Koa earrings are strong, please respect them by storing with care.
